Roots is what some would refer to as our Sunday School, but it takes place during the 11:00 worship service at ShawneeUMC. Before parents head into the Centrum for worship, they stop by the Roots Registration Desk at the end of the Commons and check in their kids. Don’t worry, if you’ve never been here before, check-in is simple and just takes a few moments. You’ll be given a badge with a number that matches the badge your child will wear. You’ll have to present that badge to pick up your child after the worship service is over.

So, What Do Kids Do in Roots?
Lots of stuff! Our Kindergarten through fifth graders focus on a different virtue each month. (A virtue is something God does IN us to change the world AROUND us.) This year our virtues are obedience, courage, honor, wisdom, joy, commitment, faith, forgiveness, humility and determination. On Sunday mornings we meet in our classrooms for a welcoming activity. Then the classes combine in the sanctuary for a time of worship, prayer and to watch a video lesson on the weekly Bible story that supports the virtue. We go back to our classroom for games, crafts and discussion in our small groups.
